Most everyone has used a gumball machine. You put your coin in the coin slot and turn the crank, and a gumball falls out the chute. The key piece of the machine is a disk inside that collects gumballs one by one and drops them into the chute for the customer. Imagine a thick disk made of metal. In the center of the disk is an axle.
On a busy Friday night during school vacation week, the slot machines inside Encore Boston Harbor casino experienced a sudden failure according to customers.
Multiple people inside the casino contacted WCVB saying the slot machines suddenly shut down, giving a message to 'call attendant.'

How A Slot Machine Works
'We experienced a brief system outage with our slot ticketing system in which we reverted to hand-paid jackpots,' Encore Boston Harbor said in a statement. 'The issue has been resolved and we are paying all winners.'

Customers reported some slot machines began to come back online around 9:30 p.m. Friday.
